Buccaclean® has been awarded the VOHC® Accepted Seal in the Helps Control Plaque claim category — meaning a recognised independent body has reviewed the evidence and accepted the plaque-control claim. The formulation combines:

- An enzymatic complex — amyloglucosidase and glucose oxidase, peroxidases naturally present in saliva, that reinforce natural defences and interfere with bacterial glucose metabolism.
- Bromelain — with demonstrated in-vitro activity against plaque bacteria and the agents of periodontal disease.
- Antibiofilm polysaccharides (rhamnose, glucose, glucuronic acid) — block bacterial adhesion to oral surfaces and limit biofilm formation.
- Liquorice (Glycyrrhiza glabra) — for a soothing effect on gum tissue.

Plaque-control efficacy was assessed in a 30-day, 32-dog randomised study: after descaling at D0, half the dogs received Buccaclean® gel once daily with no mechanical brushing while the control group received no oral hygiene. The gel group showed reduced accumulation of dental plaque versus the untreated control (Gawor JP et al., 30th EVDF, Krakow, Poland, 27–29 April 2023, p218–219).
